Religious identity and intercultural comnication among Yemeni post graduate students in Malaysian public universities

Doctoral thesis of Najib Saif Mubarak Al Aghbas at University Sains Islam Malaysia 2020.  One of the reasons that drive Yemeni students coming to Malaysia to further their study is the perceived social and religious closeness between Yemen and Malaysia. This study, therefore, investigates the social and cultural experiences of Yemeni post graduate students in Malaysian public universities from the religious perspective. Improving the Student Experience: Learning From a Comparative Study of International Student Satisfaction

This article evaluates the degree to which international students are satisfied with different dimensions of their university experience, namely, their arrival, living, learning, and support service experiences. Using quantitative survey research methods based on data from the International Student Barometer (ISB), the study evaluates the experience of over 45,000 degree-seeking, undergraduate international students at 96 different institutions in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Multiple regression analyses indicated that all four dimensions of satisfaction were positively associated with students’ overall university experience, and the article reveals which of the four is the most influential. To the authors’ knowledge, this study represents the first time that a comparative meta-analysis of ISB data across institutions in the three chosen countries has been undertaken. Key implications are discussed for how university administrators, practitioners, and researche...

Towards sustainable internationalization in post-COVID higher education: Voices from non-native English-speaking international students in Canada

International students have been a dominant topic in Canadian government and institutional strategies in recent years (Tamtik, 2017; Trilokekar & El Masri, 2020). As of 2019, the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) reports over 600,000 international students in Canada across all levels of study. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the complexities around student engagement, learning and community building are complicated by remote learning. International students, in particular, face increasing challenges due to isolation from home countries and a reduction of in-person support services. We must now, more than ever, identify and address the lack of supports available to international students. This qualitative study provides voices from non-native English-speaking international students in Ontario universities speaking about the institutional support systems they have experienced in Canada. The findings are reported in a narrative format. PHOEBE KANG Universit...

Changing patterns of international academic mobility: the experiences of Western-origin faculty members in Turkey

Imagen
International academic mobility has gained widespread attention in higher education as new hosting countries have emerged in addition to traditional destinations. In this changing environment, little emphasis has been placed on international academics in emerging non-Western destinations. This qualitative study examines the experiences of 18 Western-origin faculty members in Turkey, an emerging destination for international academics with its unique culture blending East and West, and explores their rationales for moving to Turkey, the positive experiences and challenges they have faced during their time in the country, and their career expectations. The findings indicate that the rationales, experiences, and expectations of Western-origin academics in Turkey are multifaceted and mostly differ from those in traditional destinations of international academic mobility. Benefitting from a comparative lens on traditional and emerging destinations, understanding the experiences of internati...
